Performance Parameters & Materials of Construction

Performance Parameters

Accuracy - QED gauges use the same principle of operation preferred by builders of master test gauges. While +/-2% of full scale is quite common, more rigorous or lenient requirements are easily accommodated. Our application specialists can assist you in selecting the level of accuracy which will best suit your application.

Useful Life - It is not uncommon for 30 year old QED built gauges to be returned to us for repair due to external physical damage. In most cases, a QED pressure gauge will outlast the system in which it is installed.

Environmental - QED has qualified pressure gauges to MIL-G-25867 in the following areas: humidity, salt fog, fungus, dirt, over-pressure, endurance, seasoning, high and low temperature exposure, temperature-altitude and high and low temperature.

Shock - Common gauges are easily destroyed by the intense shock frequently found in demanding applications. However, QED offers shock tolerant designs which can withstand loads up to 100 Gs.

Vibration - Vibration can ruin the accuracy and even destroy gauges of lesser construction. By contrast, the standard QED gauge can exceed the requirements of MIL-G-25867 and testing parameters of MIL-STD-810. Therefore, it is approved for equipment installed in propeller airplanes and equipment mounted to engines including jet engines. Special designs (patent pending) have been tested to 90 Grms overall.

Temperature - Suitable for most severe service, the standard QED pressure gauge has passed the temperature requirements of MIL-G-25867. With low temperature capabilities tested to 65 degrees F (-54 degrees C) and high temperature to +275 degrees F (+120 degrees C), you can rely upon QED pressure gauges.

Materials of Construction

Coil - Fabricated from Inconel X-750, the Bourdon coil is the heart of the QED pressure gauge. Compatible with most fluids, this superior material is extremely durable, non-magnetic with excellent oxidation, corrosion and ductility properties. Beryllium copper Bourdon coils are also available for selected applications.

Case - The best material for the case depends upon the application. For light weight, aluminum is the preferred material. If corrosion resistance or physical strength are important, 300 Series stainless steel is recommended. In either instance, QED fabricates these housings on our CNC turning centers.

Lens - Choose the material that best suits your application. QED can provide glass crystals or fabricate plastic lenses in our own factory. Acrylic delivers superior clarity, ultraviolet and scratch resistance while polycarbonate offers greater strength.

Fittings - QED offers hundreds of different sizes and styles of installation fittings in corrosion resistant, high strength 300 Series stainless steel or a material to suit your needs. Whether you choose AN, MS, BSP, SAE, METRIC or a special style it will be manufactured in-house to our exacting standards on our own state-of-the-art CNC machines. Fitting placement is also an option. You can order back mount, bottom mount or top mount the choice is yours.
