Coil Winding
The heart and soul of the QED/inc. pressure gauge is a helical, spiral or multi-layer Bourdon coil; the pressure element. Using Inconel ® X-750 seamless tubing as our primary Bourdon coil material, QED technicians wind each Bourdon coil individually on QED/inc. designed and built custom CNC winding equipment. Many parameters are carefully considered and a Bourdon coil which meets the specific requirements of your application is developed and manufactured. Because the Bourdon coil is eventually brazed into the fitting, it becomes the "single moving part" of the standard QED pressure gauge.
Silk Screening
The do-it-in-house philosophy of QED/inc. extends to the silk screening of each dial which is carefully fabricated at QED. We make our own artwork, create our own silk screens and screen our own dials. This level of control insures that the dial arc will be matched with the correct arc Bourdon coil, thereby assuring accuracy. Multiple colors, special colors, unique markings, your logo; all are possible and routine at QED/inc.
Flame Brazing/Induction Brazing
Old world craftsmanship with modern equipment, that’s the QED way. Our joining techniques also include furnace brazing, welding, roll and orbital forming. Each joining process is carefully documented with work instructions and procedures. All technicians are trained at QED in the correct methods of assembly and test and all technicians are periodically re-trained, to insure top quality products.
Pressure Testing
Every pressure gauge built by QED/inc. goes through multiple testing cycles to insure accuracy, pressure integrity and long life. All of our products are tested with one or more of the tests in each of the following categories:
Bourdon coil stabilization and testing to proof pressure
Leak testing with gas under water, leak-down method, or helium sniffing
Individual calibration

At QED/inc., quality is so important that we certified for ISO 9001 and AS9100 over a year earlier than required by Boeing. Maintaining sales, procurement, manufacturing, production control, training and other records, performing chemical and physical material tests, keeping lot traceability on Bourdon coils, managing configuration control are just a few of the tasks that QED/inc.
